Zonal Geraniums – A Profusion of Blooms For Your Garden!

A popular container plant, Zonal Geraniums offer compact sizes that are well suited to windowboxes, pots, and planters. Try the 6-8 in. tall, salmon-pink ‘Timothy Clifford,’ or the 9 in. ‘Ivalo’ with the crimson-dotted, pale pink blossoms for a sunny patio container.

WHERE TO PLANT

Zonal Geraniums add a formal charm to to garden beds and containters. Ideal for a sunny position in a cottage windowbox or on a patio, these plants thrive in bright, dry and cool sites.

1. A massed planting of red Geraniums looks wonderful next to a cool, green carpet of lawn. In spring, plant them among flowering bulbs where the rapidly growing Zonal Geraniums will hide the bulbs’ dying foliage.

2. Place a line of terra-cotta pots, each filled with Zonal Geraniums of the same variety, along either side of a path that leads through the garden or to your front door.

3. Zonal Geraniums are a classic component of cottage windowboxes. Plant several mauve-pink, dwarf ‘Emma Hossler’ Zonal Geraniums for maximum impact.

PERFECT PARTNERS

Their attractive leaves and variety of flower colors make Zonal Geraniums excellent companions for many summer flowers. Zonal Geraniums add vivid color to beds of bright annuals. Pair ‘Friesdorf’ with its masses of orange scarlet blooms, with brilliant hued Petunias and Cosmos. White Geraniums, such as ‘Pinto White’ can form the base for an enchanting, all white garden that includes Nicotiana and Lilies.

For a charmingly simple container, plant scarlet flowered ‘Geronimo’ with a small leaved English Ivy trailing over the sides. Or fill a planter box with a soft blend of salmon pink ‘Dale Queen’ and blue Lobelia. Feature several Geraniums with strongly zoned leaves in a large tub with Scented Geraniums and cascades of Ivy leaved Geraniums. Choose ‘Mrs. Pollock’ with its yellow and bronze splashed foliage as a dramatic centerpiece.
